It’s trick or treat time!
Here are some reminders to keep your pet safe on Halloween.
* No people treats for Fido or Fluffy. Chocolate can be very dangerous for dogs and cats. Sugar free candies, including gum and mints contain xylitol, which can also cause problems, including hypoglycemia and even liver failure. And watch those wrappers – cellophane and tin foil can be dangerous if swallowed.
* We love to dress up our pets and show them off. But please do not put your pet in a costume unless you know he or she likes to be in disguise! Wearing a costume can cause undo stress for some pets. Make sure the costume does not have any dangling or ill-fitting pieces that can be caught on something or chewed off.
* Keep pets inside to avoid pranksters. Sadly, there are people out there who may be out to cause your pet harm. This is especially true for cats. And keep your pet in a separate room during trick-or-treating hours. Too many strangers and door bell ringing can be stressful on animals.
* Keep the pumpkins and decorations out of reach of your pet. Wires, cords, and plastic can all cause harm if pulled and chewed.
* Have fun and Happy Halloween! We hope these safety tips help. If your pet does like to get dressed us – send us a picture to our Facebook page or this website.
